Lahore Crusade Pastor/Leaders Conference Persecution
November 9, 10, & 11, 2005
Pastor Anwar Fazal secured eight acres and promoted the three day event in Lahore Pakistan with Hamilton Filmalter and his team from America as the ministers. As of November 15, 2005 no official totals have come in on the numbers present, saved, and healed. The estimates are 300,000 to 450,000 total attendance with about 80% accepting Jesus as savior and 1000's were healed.
The Meetings
The meetings built each night growing in number and miracles every night to the last night with an minimum estimate of 160,000 in attendance. Every night about 80% of the crowd stood to accept Jesus as savior. As Hamilton ministered to the crowd he asked those that had made a previous commitment to Christ to sit back down in an attempt to insure that people were not standing up more than once. High Quality Video- Very Large File Hamilton ministered in English and an interpreter translated the message into the national language of Urdu. It was truly a sea of people. The air is so dirty it was difficult to see the back of the crowd. Hundreds of buses carried their passengers, some for hours, to the grounds to be a part of the meetings. Thousands of posters were placed all over the region to let the people of Pakistan know about the meetings. The people worshiped for at least two hours each night, some dancing before the Lord. By the crowd's actions you would have thought the entire crowd was saved in how they genuinely participated in singing songs about Jesus. High Quality Video
The Miracles
Due to security concerns we were not able to hear very many testimonies of healing. High Quality Video On the second night two people, a child and one adult were healed of blindness. The first picture above is of a man that was seriously injured and had been in a wheel chair for quite some time. We saw him in the front of the crowd and saw him struggle to stand and could not. Then as Hamilton released the healing anointing and prayed for specific needs over the crowd the man stood with the help of others and walked to the stage, upon the stage, and across the stage. High Quality Video. On Thursday night several us saw two men near the front of the crowd and one of the men had a shackle on at least one of his hands with about 18" of chain on it. When testimonies were given on Friday night we heard his testimony. He had been in chains for years, demon possessed, and God set him free and he gave his testimony in his right mind.
The Team Members From Stockton
Frank Brown, worship leader and Farris Baker, senior pastor both of TFH were joined by Matt Gonzales of Stockton's College Campus Ministries. The total team was made up of seventeen members from Stockton, Portland, and Ohio, lead by Hamilton Filmalter. Our role was one of intercession and support, as well personal ministry during some of the smaller meetings. In some of the leadership meetings we were able to pray for impartation and healing over the members of Pastor Anwar's church. Farris Baker and Frank Brown were both able to minister at the largest meeting, Farris in prayer and Frank in worship. High Quality Video - Very Large Every day prior to the evening meetings we had a time of prayer and discussion about what God was doing there in Pakistan. God used Matt to reveal the impact on the Muslim religious leaders as God showed him a vision of the leaders getting saved. Others had similar visions. Pastor Farris saw a heart that was blue in color turn red and full of life and shared that he felt that it spoke of hearts being healed as well as new life coming to the heart of Pakistan. The first testimony of that night was of a heart being healed as well as the about third or fourth testimony also.
Protection
Pakistan is not the friendliest county towards Christianity, so we were provided with armed guards at most times and especially during the crusade meetings. As we were transported around Lahore we also hard at least one armed guard in each vehicle. Pastor Anwar has been able to obtain the support for his ministry from the Chief of Police over Lahore and four members of the Pakistani Parliament.
Life in Lahore
Below are a few pictures showing life in Lahore. The people in Lahore are some of the most hospitable people you will find any where. If you go you better like spicy food and let them drive. The air is filthy in Lahore and is filled with exhaust fumes, smoke, sulfur odors, as well as dust and dirt. The record for most people on a motorcycle was six, none with a helmet. Most of the pictures showing the scenery views were taken from the roof of the hotel we stayed in.

In order to keep the momentum of these meeting going there was a pastor/leaders meeting for two days this year. In these meetings it was encouraged to start home meetings to assist the new believers. The Christians of Lahore were encouraged to let God use them and not rely on Pastor Anwar or American ministers but let God use them to pray for one another. The people received the word and prayed for each other at the end of the service.
While still in Pakistan we received this story but our sources said that several bus loads of people came from Sangla to the crusade and upon returning they were persecuted by having their church facilities burnt. Whether the people burnt the Koran or not is not for sure but it may have been used as justification to make the persecutor's actions seem to be justified in a Muslim nation. Sangla is a two hour bus ride to Lahore where our crusade was held. Hundreds of buses were hired to bring people to the crusade.

Churches, Convents, Schools and Homes Targeted in Pakistan
Michael Ireland / Aimee Herd reporting (Nov 14, 2005) An ANS report states that about 2,000 Muslims went on a rampage against Christians in the Punjab region of Pakistan yesterday around 10am local time. According to the report, 3 churches, a nun's convent, 2 Catholic schools and houses belonging to a pastor and a priest were first vandalized and then set on fire by an enraged mob in the village of Sangla Hill. The violence was reportedly motivated by an alleged burning of a Koran on Friday. "The attack seems to have been planned and organized as the attackers were brought to the site in buses and instigated to commit violence and arson," Mgr. Lawrence John Saldanha, Archbishop of Lahore Archdiocese and Chairman National Commission for Justice and Peace told AsiaNews. "It gave our people a lot of fear and anxiety but we hope the government will do something," he added. The Christians have not yet returned, says ANS , as they fear there may be more violence done to them. |
